Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch is ‘driving’ a move for Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner, according to Ben Jacobs.

The Lowdown: Wagner links

The Whites were first linked with a move for Wagner back in May, when Leeds’ Premier League status was hanging by a thread.

Rumours have continued throughout the summer, with Philadelphia Union manager Jim Curtin confirming recently that he has spoken with Marsch about a potential move for Wagner.

The club are light at left-back with both Junior Firpo and Stuart Dallas sidelined, leaving Pascal Struijk to fill in for the first two games of the season.

The Latest: Jacobs’ post

Jacobs took to Twitter on Sunday morning to provide plenty of Leeds transfer updates.

One of those was on Wagner, who he labelled a ‘very creative’ player, saying that Marsch is ‘driving’ a move with talks ongoing.

The Verdict: Fingers crossed

Portuguese giants Benfica are also pushing to sign Wagner, which just goes to show that a move to Elland Road could prove to be a real coup.

You’d like to think the German may get regular game time in Yorkshire given the club’s current situation at left-back, so hopefully, Marsch’s efforts to bring him to Leeds pay off.

Wagner would provide strength in depth at left-back and a move seems to make sense, especially after Rasmus Kristensen was brought in to bolster the club’s right-back ranks earlier in the window.
